Style Steal

Cara Delevingne: model of the moment, envy of every girl.

Theresa May: better known for her aptitude in politics than her fashion sense.

*

But apparently the supermodel and the Home Secretary have more in common than we all thought…

Both ladies went crazy with the colour wheel, accompanied by some statement knee-high boots. That pattern is definitely not Theresa’s usually conservative look! Stealing style tips, ladies?

Both these girls know that simplicity goes a long way and that you can never go that far wrong with a bandeau. Cara opts for a mini and grunges her outfit up with chunky boots, whereas TM stays classic chic.

This one is my favourite. An explosion of a graphic peacock print works well for both Cara and Theresa and they both know what suits them: Cara goes all-out boho style whilst Theresa balances her busy pattern with a simple shift.

Who said a suit had to be boring? Experiment with your shade scale and you’ll realise that grey can loosely translate as silver. Cara, sparkling on a night out and Theresa, adding some shine to another day at work.

Best in black: from pretty prints to politics, black always has your back. Theresa slips in style points for adding a patterned bag which doesn’t quite qualify as adding a splash of colour to her outfit.

Coordinating coats again with these blue and silver floral prints. Cara opts for a more risque look for the catwalk; understandably, Theresa does not, walking the streets of London.

Another favourite: Theresa trumps Cara, wearing a vintage/retro tartan suit which was the 21-year-old’s birthday togs.

Grunge up a girly dress!

I am a girly girl. I love my pretty dresses with their lace, skater skirts and candy colours. But every now and then it feels good to be a bit different; to break your mould of puff sleeves and kitsch motifs.

Now I am not suggesting in any way that to add a bit of a grungy look to your outfit means you have to invest in some metal jewellery and heavy eye make up. Not at all. All I mean is to try ‘toughening’ up your outfit. Use your dress as your base; pretty, innocent and relatively simple. Then, instead of pairing it with a pair of delicate pumps or heels, throw a pair of boots on. It will give your outfit some definite edge. Lose the cardi over your shoulders; alternate to a hard-wearing jacket, such as a leather, camo or even a denim!

Here is an outfit I am wearing today and as you can see I’ve got my really girly dress; a white high-lo hemmed lace dress from Topshop, which I normally wear with nude T-bar pumps, and paired it with my bright red patent Dr. Martens! I love it. Not only are my feet kept warm and dry in the cold, wet weather, but I’ve transformed my pretty lacy dress into an staple for a subtly edgy outfit. Today I have chosen to wear a camo/army jacket from Urban Outfitters with this outfit. To make it more unique to my own style, I have sewn metallic studs on the lapels and collar lining, as well as stitching on some army-themed badges to the sleeves.

Enjoy 🙂

Top picks from Topshop’s Sale!

It’s not a secret that all of us love a good sale. The things we love at bargain prices. What’s not to love?! I’ve been scouring the website and these are on my list. Or already ordered. Same thing..

60s Lace Panel Shift Dress-£26

Every girl needs a white dress and personally, I have trouble finding one that looks sexy but classy at the same time. I think crochet dresses/tops/skirts fit so nicely on the figure and it is less than half price! The shift style keeps it classic and elegant whilst the lace and cut-out middle adds a fun twist. Let a dress like this shine and keep accessories to a minimum, unless you want to add a pop of colour with some bright heels. Now all you need is your tan!

Butterfly Print Kimono-£10

Kimonos are such quirky and cool alternatives to cardigans and my preference for something over the shoulders to a more formal event, such as to dinner. This particular kimono is only a tenner. Down from £48, I don’t think you could find a nicer item of clothing at a better price. This can be worn as a casual cover-up and even make the outfit a little more exciting if you’re just wearing a plain cami, jeans and trainers. On the other hand, it is the perfect jacket to put over a LBD on a night out of to make your outfit to dinner a little more dressy when you don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard! This went straight to my basket!

Knitted Bug Emblem V Neck Top-£15

This forest green knit immediately caught my eye! The ribbed detail and emblem give it a preppy feel and I plan to wear it over a fitted shirt or high-neck/polo-neck sleeveless top. It will look great with both jeans or shorts and tights, so it’s definitely a keeper for this winter weather. Finally-buying something because it’s useful. Who would have thought?!

Suzie Dress by Jones and Jones-£30

Everyone needs a LBD (Little Black Dress) in their lives and this is mine-or one of mine! Chiffon is sexy but the dress is kept modest with the large bow on the front and the cute-as-a-button peter pan collar. I have these adorable candy-coloured strappy block heels which would make it such a sweet outfit, or alternatively I could grunge it up with some studded shoe boots. A black dress is so versatile and this one can be worn on so many different occasions.

Enjoy searching for your own bargains! Also don’t forget the key essentials. If a strappy top or coloured vest is on sale-grab it! Better to get an essential on sale as it will last you a lifetime!

Outfit of the Day!

As the days grow shorter, the nights longer, the weather colder and the sky darker, it is the perfect time for metallic clothing to literally shine. Add some sparkle, glitter and an aura of festivity into your wardrobe this winter. I just went for dinner with a friend to Dim T in London Bridge for a belated birthday celebration and I popped on this outfit. It is always nice to dress up fancy and glam for dinner, especially when it is a restaurant with an elegant atmosphere. Dim T in London Bridge overlooks the Thames and our table had an absolutely gorgeous view of Tower Bridge!

I paired together the Jandy metallic gold laser cut out skater skirt from Missguided, which was at a bargain price of £14.99, with see-through lace top with gold sequins from New Look. The skirt is currently in the sale (in other colours as well) for £5.99-so if you like the style-snap one (or two!) up. To maintain both my decency and dignity, I layered a mocha-coloured lace top from River Island underneath. It is practically vintage now, having belonged to my sister before me, but it just proves that some buys are investments! Accessories-wise, I kept it simple, with my black Chanel J12 watch and a more-affordable gold spike statement necklace from New Look. I wore my black grunge/biker boots which have amazing detailing of gold toe-caps, spikes and studs. The outfit itself was pretty moderate, but the fact that it was all gold, metallic and sparkly, made it seem a bigger deal. What’s more, is that it is all extremely affordable, from the high street (minus the watch!). You don’t need to spend a fortune to look good, you simply need to pick pieces which are versatile and iconic.

EFFY?!

Kaya ditches the biker boots, ripped tights and metal jewellery for a chic blue A-line dress at the screening of her new flick: Walking Stories.

Image

The ex-Skins actress turned a fair few heads when she swapped her grunge look for glam. The 21-year old embraced her new sophisticated style in New York in this metallic blue shift dress, but didn’t go completely conservative on us; keeping it slightly edgy with an asymmetric A-line hem. Kaya kept her accessories to a minimum, with simple black heels, a black clutch and stud earrings. The heavy black eye makeup that we are all so used to seeing on the actress from her infamous role in the teenage-hit-series has also vanished, with Kaya bearing a fresh face and simple up’do hairstyle. How very girl-next-door.

It looks like Effy is well and truly behind Kaya, as the actress embarks on new projects and shows the world the extent of the sophistication in her style.

Another Outfit of the Day!

Another Boohoo find! I instantly fell in love with the Verity black patent ankle boots with buckles, tassels and a mock-croc print. I paired them with a Topshop cream shirt dress with black polka dots, which I wear ALL the time. It’s such a cute dress that you can wear with anything. It was chilly so I wore a burgundy slouchy cropped knit jumper over the top. It hung nicely over the dress; the collar of the dress peeking out from underneath the jumper, making it seem very prim and preppy. To add some edge and grunge (which I tend to do with my pretty or simple outfits), I wore a spiky gold necklace from New Look (at £6 it was a STEAL, compared to the statement necklaces in Topshop or Zara!) The good thing about this outfit is it looks smart but pretty at the same time. I’ve worn it to interviews for part-time jobs, to lunch with friends or the cinema. It’s so versatile and comfy at the same time-bonus! With this particular styling, I bought the boots from Boohoo and then built my outfit around it. What a good pair of boots can do eh?
