Audrey

Elegant, sophisticated and chic; it is quite obvious why almost every girl idolises the late Audrey Hepburn. Even those who are not big fans of  her cannot deny how stylish and iconic the woman was. The world fell in love with her from the moment she graced our screens in SabrinaRoman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Audrey was flawless and fabulous, with such iconic style and a beautiful face. In celebration of her, I have collected various Audrey-style pieces from the high street, for those who loved her and her stylish outfit choices and would like to channel her look themselves. My favourite piece is the Ted Baker ‘Belloh’ dress; it is slightly more pricey than what you would have in mind to spend on a dress, but it is a gorgeous and classic dress.

Kate: epitome of elegance

Kate Middleton has always had undeniable classy style. Previously an accessory buyer for the clothing brand, Jigsaw, Kate was immediately placed on many of the ‘best dressed’ lists regarding her fashion and style. She was featured in numerous newspapers and magazines, Tatler, People and The Daily Telegraph, to name a few, for her outfit choices. Vanity Fair had Kate as their ‘Number One’ best-dressed in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and even had her as the cover star for the 2012 issue.

It is no secret that the now-Duchess’s on-call girl for her gorgeous gowns is British-designer, Jenny Packham. Kate was dressed in a beautiful teal dress with lace back detail for the London Olympic Gala, shimmered in a metallic beauty at the 10th Annual ARK Gala Dinner and even donned a elegantly glamorous navy gown for a benefit gala last Thursday.

The Duchess caused a storm when she and Prince William announced their engagement. I feel that there was definitely more excitement and awe at the Issa London navy blue dress that Kate wore, over the actual engagement. The ‘little black dress’ was rapidly replaced by the ‘little blue dress’, as women across the globe ransacked the online store and then ran out to buy from the shops. The colour of the dress was described as a mixture of sapphire, to match the late Princess Diana’s engagement ring which William gave Kate, navy and royal blue. The wrap dress was an extremely flattering design, which prompted a revival of the style in the high street. Harvey Nichols sold out of the £385 iconic dress within 24 hours of Kate debuting it. Florence + Fred, for Tescos, delivered a stylish and equally-elegant replica of the dresss, at a lower budget of £16, yet that too did not stay in stores for long, selling out within a week. Women go crazy for Kate’s chic style, which proves that the indecent and obscene outfits that the likes of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna wear are not in fact the most desirable and even necessary choices.

Kate is the people’s princess. She is loved by all for her down-to-earth and genuine characteristics. This is displayed through her style too. She does not limit herself to the expensive designer gowns that are so readily at her disposal. She is more often than not found in dresses by the luxury brand, Reiss, and this too causes a frenzy like no other. The Duchess wore a structured nude dress upon visiting President Obama and appeared in a white asymmetric dress for both her engagement photo and a visit to Canada. It is reported that whenever Kate wears a Reiss dress, shoppers attack the store and the online website, until the dress sells out. Furthermore, Reiss only create a limited number of each design, to maintain the aura of elite clothes and exclusivity.

People want Kate’s style, that is the reputation she beholds. She wears such classic and chic designs, but it is the class and elegance with which she wears them that makes her dresses so iconic.
