The NEEDS of the sales

I’ve heard from quite a few people that they haven’t found much in the current sale so here I am to sift out the best bargains and bring them to your attention!

Glamorous: Black PU Paperbag Waist Shorts: £10

-Glamorous have at least half of their sale at £10 so it really is worth checking it out and with 20% discount for students (even on top of sale price!) it would just be rude not to! Pair these shorts with a fitted shirt and statement necklace or casual vest top and heels for an ultra luxe look.

Glamorous Sale

Urban Outfitters: ‘Pins and Needles’ Velvet Floral Crop Top and Hotpants: £10 each

-I am really loving making separates at the moment and the obvious benefit is that you get three outfit options for £20. Normally I prefer either the top of the shorts to be a little less tight, especially with a curvy figure, so I basically am imploring my skinny minny or more body-confident friends to buy this adorable little set. Black tights and creepers and you’re good to go!

Dahlia: Melissa Eyelet White Dress: £25

-For those of you who don’t know, Dahlia is a small fashion boutique on Carnaby Street in London, founded by two sisters who capture quirkiness and delicacy in their designs. I personally find that finding the right white dress is a mission but I instantly fell in love with this one. Don a pair of tan brogues and this cropped denim jacket!

Whistles: Alison Red Mesh Insert Dress: £40

-Whistles have up to 70% off in the sale so if you enjoy the finer things in life, head to the website now. They have a good selection of cigarette trousers and cashmere cowl-neck jumpers. I particularly like this fitted fire-red shift dress as it oozes chic and would shape any body type beautifully. A perfect ‘office to drinks’dress; nude or black courts for the day and fierce jewellery and shoe boots for the evening.

Ted Baker: Heidiy Water Bottle Print Jeans: £55

-Considering Topshop’s jeans are £40, £55 doesn’t seem too pricey, especially when it’s Ted Baker! These jeans have such an interesting and unique print/pattern and are perfect for welcoming SS’14. Grunge up with a cosy knit and boots until this miserable weather finally decides to leave us and crack out a chiffon white shirt and nude heels or flats when the sunshine comes. Ted Baker’s AW’13 is all between 30% and 50% reduced so if you had your eye on something earlier this year; now’s the time.

ASOS: Astronomy Studded Leather Ankle Boots: £32.50

-I love studs and buckles and these boots remind me of the Alvin boots Topshop had last year that sold out quickly. The detail on this boot and the stacked heel make them versatile for a casual outfit in the day or with a cute dress in a bar.

River Island: Blue Mixed Print Scuba Jacket: £25

-This jacket is insane. I love the oriental feel and brightness of the colours. River Island previously had a pair of harem pants in this exact pattern which I adored too. A pair of jeans will be elevated immediately by the bold look of this blazer and it can also be a fun way to do smart.

River Island sale

Miss Selfridge: Cross and Diamond Chain: £15

-Statement necklaces are notoriously expensive but are excellent for transforming an overworn top or elevating a plain one. Miss Selfridge have this gorgeous one which used to be £50 so I would snap it up quickly at this price. I love the vintage feel and delicate but grunge aspect of Miss Selfridge’s clothes and accessories and this necklace is no exception. Wear it with a high-low skirt, military boots, layered vests and a leather jacket in the day or use it to create a detailed difference over a plain top or dress for a striking evening look.

Who’s wearing what on NYE!

Scouting across King’s, finding out what the girls would wear to turn into 2014!

Image

Alicia has chosen this stunning midi-length tartan Bodycon dress as her choice for NYE. She will certainly make an entranced in this individual and eye-catching outfit from River Island.  Pairing it with some black strappy wedges from New Look, she’s look fierce and fabulous in her rock chic look!

Image

Length seems to be key in creating a chic and glamorous look, as Nicole opts for a midnight blue maxi dress from Forever Unique. This dress is incredible as it is blue-velvet bodycon but morphs into black chiffon. Details such as the one-shouldered style and chiffon panel in the middle keep this dress on trend. Although they can’t be seen, Nicole has kept it simple with black heels and also a black clutch. Keeping her neckline simple, a pair of shimmering earrings draws attention to her eyes but keeps the main focus on her dress.

Image

Kamilah shows us it’s not all about the dress, looking striking in a pair of hot pink fitted high-waisted shorts and an ivory bralet. Black shoe boots and a gold spiky necklace give this outfit even more edge, so if you’re not really a dress-up-fancy kind of girl, don’t worry, you can still rock an awesome look for New Year’s.

Priyanka looks both adorable and gorgeous in this too-cute peplum dress. She has kept things simple and classic but shows that black is most definitely not boring. River Island is obviously the place to go for a bargain party dress, so any ladies out there fretting about what to wear; take note. Black heels to match but fuschia nails to add that pop of colour to her outfit and a statement necklace to add some edge. A statement necklace is an essential with a black dress; Topshop is your best place to pick one up!

Model for the day!

My friends, Oscar and Lauren, at Roar! had the idea to compose a ‘winter fashion shoot’ showcasing both casual and formal looks around King’s. Luckily, as part of King’s campus falls in Somerset House, we were able to (after some grovelling, mind!) shoot some photos against the Christmas tree and ice rink there as well!

Oscar had a photographer friend, KKgas Perales, who he had worked with before, who was helping us with the shoot and the guy was awesome. Everything from telling us that he dresses like a tourist so he can take shots anywhere without being questioned and that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission, to making us feel relaxed when posing; he was great. I personally prefer smiling over the moody pout but had to look ‘angry’ in some shots, so I’m fully prepared to look like an idiot in those shots but the day was so much fun.

Adding not being able to get out of bed at an early hour and function properly to the long list of why I could never be a model, I groggily arrived at the Strand campus, ready to be attacked by a hairbrush and makeup palette. Being the clueless sad excuse for a girl that I am when it comes to hair and makeup, I was glad to have girls who knew exactly what to do! Jacinta went all out with plum eyeshadow and a shimmery silvery layer on top and accentuated my eyes with eyeliner and mascara. Chloe redeemed herself from the ‘dry shampoo incident’ with Lauren with my pretty amazing topknot which stayed in place all day (that’s a pretty impressive feat) and then we all got into our outfits for the first shoot.

For the ‘casual’ shots, Cleo wore a black lycra bodysuit with an oversized grey mottled coat. Accessories-wise, she wore black cut-out ankle boots and a cosy faux fur hat. I wore black tights and an oversized neon-orange jumper from H&M, which I am in love with and plan to buy oh so soon. Paired with the jumper were some black suede knee-high boots from Primark (I couldn’t believe it when I realised that’s where they were from-at £18 they are an absolute bargain!) and wore…a scarf or two with it. That’s a complete understatement. I wore about six oversized scarves and snoods to give the outfit a layered look. It was hilarious putting them on and making sure my face didn’t get completely swallowed up but it looked really cool. I might not use quite that many, but layering several knitted scarves is something I want to do more often to make a simple outfit a little bit more exciting.

Oscar practically donated half his wardrobe of edgy vintage and charity shop finds to the shoot. For the first look, Oscar wore black skinny trousers, Timberland boots and a green Stanley Kane (a British designer who had offered clothes for the shoot) shirt. Toby also wore Stanley Kane; a green and navy sweatshirt with jeans and brown shoes.

For the formal look, Cleo and I had to change into dresses; her into an adorable tartan dress from Primark with a white split peter pan collar and me into a pink Jacquard satin swing slip dress from Topshop. Cleo accessorized with black tights and the same black ankle boots and added a fitted leather jacket on top, with a cream faux fur scarf around her shoulders. I kept with black tights too but changed into my black DNKY shoe boots for a more glamorous look. It was freezing so I was more than grateful for Oscar’s extremely oversized black fur coat. Cleo’s hair was in voluminous curls whilst mine was removed from topknot position and pushed to one side.

The boys smartened up too; Oscar in a burgandy shirt with a holly-print Christmas jumper on top. He wore black formal trousers, his trademark patent black shoes and a blue velvet blazer. Toby also wore a velvet blazer, but a green one, and paired with charcoal jeans “so tight he hadn’t worn jeans like them since he was 12”! He rocked a bit of a Louis Tomlinson and wore black smart shoes with no socks and showing all kinds of ankle.

The shoot was really fun as it was relaxed but still professional at the same time. One King’s student asked who we were (in passing) which was quite comical as we replied ‘same as you…King’s!’. We used Somerset House, King’s Strand Campus, the arches on the Terrace, the notorious Walkabout steps and underneath Waterloo Bridge as ‘locations’ as the photographer kept taking us for ‘a walk’ to move around, relax and find new lighting I suppose. I had to leave at this point but I think the others ventured off to Covent Garden for some more shots. It was a fun day and hopefully the photos look amazing.

Here are some ‘sneak peeks’ from Lauren’s phone but stay tuned for a later entry with the photos 🙂
